Nothing about 2020 has been "normal." Simply put, this year has been unprecedented. The world of banking has certainly been unprecedented. From the long hours spent processing applications for the Paycheck Protection Program, to the health and sanitization procedures brought about by the spread of COVID-19, nothing has been "normal" about this year.
Fortunately, our bank has been around since 1889, 131 years. During that time period, we've seen unprecedented before. Our organization has survived the Great Depression, the Great Recession, our world at war (twice), the uncertainty of the September 11 attacks and yes, a global pandemic with the 1918 H1N1 Pandemic. I'll reiterate, we've seen unprecedented before, and we'll be okay.
During each of these trying times, our bank has proven its resiliency and ability to adapt to changing circumstances. The 2020 COVID-19 Pandemic has been another example of how our organization handles adversity.
In reality, our resiliency is a reflection of the resolve and strength that our nation has shown during each of these events. No matter what circumstances come our way, we'll adapt and overcome.
I wanted to take this time to let you know of all the work we've been doing to keep you safe and help you out during this unprecedented year. First, our lenders worked around the clock to process Paycheck Protection Program applications and get our businesses the money they needed before funds ran out. We are happy to report that we were able to do that with 100% effectivity and our forgiveness application process is currently ongoing and running smoothly. We are also one of the few banks in our market areas that have lobby access available for customers. We were able to accomplish this by acting quickly to implement enhanced cleaning procedures and installation of plexiglass guards. Our staff's health is checked daily and masks are required for all First National Bank employees. This has allowed us to keep our doors open to serve you.
We know that this year has been difficult. It has been unprecedented. But we assure you, our dedication to serving you will be what's unprecedented. No matter what is thrown our way in the weeks and months ahead, just know, we'll be right here where we've always been, doing what we do best. Putting You 1st. Always.
